Model history

In 2011 the Brits celebrated, with suited pride, the legendary Jaguar E-type's fiftieth birthday. It was 1961 when the first series was introduced fitted with 3.8ltr engine. Production ended in 1974 when the E-types engine displacement had grown to a 5.3ltr V12 engine. The Jag "E" became an immediate English icon, according to Enzo Ferrari even: "the most beautiful car ever made", hastily pronounced in rapid incomprehensible Italian. It was not just the sensual, dare I say 'sexy', design that defined its sales success, the E-type was also affordable for a car with of such performance and prestige. For a comparable Ferrari or Maserati, one had to pay three times as much in those days. The low price corresponded with the build quality to some extent. Engine and gearbox have a very good reputation and almost never fail, symmetrical shut-lines on an E-type are harder to come by. You only have to realize that every day is another, and that some days the body panels were fitted with more precision and care than other days. Paint defects or even nodules in the original factory paint can be observed. They are minor, factually unimportant, imperfections that can be seen in various places and grant these older Jaguars their charm. And above all, this car's impossibly pretty design does not do under for its driving characteristics. Try finding a period engine that runs this smoothly and quiet. A Bugatti perhaps further competition was excluded. Compare the average price of a period German six-cylinder convertible and confidently realize no car even comes close to the E-type's promise. This offered example is an original very well-tended to example that received timely maintenance and mechanical attention until very recent. The car is even fitted with electric power steering. She drives like a dream; smooth, and sporty when you desire. Reasonably priced, checked over by us, and ready to be driven.

Fitted with original wire wheels, a tonneau cover for over the folded convertible roof, and perhaps a too modern in appearance, but sublimely working radio, upon request we can fit another unit

Gorgeous this colour! Call it: "British Racing Green", or deep dark green, both goes. The body is wholly rust free. The paint remains lustrous, sans significant traces of usage or dents. True and straight panels with correct alignment. The brightwork is in very good and shiny condition. The rubbers throughout are in good condition, no dry-rot or tears. The convertible roof has recently been renewed and fits superbly. The car, evidently, remains accident free.

The interior was reupholstered a few years ago with original Tobacco coloured leather. Perfectly executed by a professional, as observed from the original shape of the seats and head rests, completely original as if she were new. The carpets and inner sill-coverings have slight traces of usage that barely show. Door cards, dashboard and centre console were all addressed and newly upholstered. The wooden steering wheel is undamaged and all switchgear functions accordingly. A remarkably pretty and original ensemble.

Enginecompartment, trunk space, wheels & tires

The engine compartment is worthy of a special mention, study the photos. All nicely clean, fresh, and mechanically addressed. No rust here either. Visibly maintained and fitted with many new (serviceable) parts. The inner visible chassis and inside of the bonnet are clean and the right colour. In the luggage compartment an original floor mat sits on top of an original spare wheel and toolkit. The jack, a special hammer to undo the spinners, and set of keys are complete and present. The wire wheels are expertly chromed and the fitted Michelin tyres are as new.
